Gluing XPS foam board
Dense closed cell insulation and modelling board, usually pink, blue or green.
Also called Depron, extruded polystyrene, insulation board, XPS.
How XPS foam board behaves when you bond it
Shares polystyrene's solvent sensitivity but with a smooth skin that adhesive cannot key into. Scoring the skin gives a much better bond than any change of adhesive.
XPS is a rigid closed-cell extruded polystyrene insulation foam with a relatively smooth extrusion skin. It is light and weak in peel, and common solvent carriers can dissolve or pit it even when the cured adhesive would otherwise be compatible.

Surface preparation
Keep the board dry, remove dust and lightly score or key the hidden skin without crushing the cells. Use only a product explicitly marked compatible with polystyrene foam, and test the wet adhesive and propellant on an offcut. Provide a route for water to leave water-based products between two closed faces.
Which adhesives work on XPS foam board
Good
Grab adhesive, no-nails
Grab adhesive, no-nails is rated good for this material as an application-level assessment, not as a blanket manufacturer claim. The prepared surface must be sound and consistently keyed where the finish permits. Suitability still depends on the other substrate, joint design and service environment.
Abrade the surface first.
Conditional
Hot melt, hot glue
Hot melt, hot glue is rated conditional for this material as an application-level assessment, not as a blanket manufacturer claim. The prepared surface must be sound and consistently keyed where the finish permits. Use only after a product-specific test on the actual grade and joint.
Abrade the surface first.
Conditional
Spray adhesive
Spray adhesive is rated conditional for this material as an application-level assessment, not as a blanket manufacturer claim. The prepared surface must be sound and consistently keyed where the finish permits. Use only after a product-specific test on the actual grade and joint.
