Product

Sika Sikaflex-521 UV

300ml cartridge

One-part Silane Terminated Polymer (STP/MS-hybrid) adhesive-sealant. Manufacturer TDS explicitly lists ABS as a bonded substrate and rates the cured joint as ageing- and weathering-resistant.

This is ms polymer, so everything true of that chemistry applies here too.

We may earn a commission from links on this page. It never changes which adhesive we recommend.

What it bonds

Where the manufacturer names a material, we quote them. Where we have assessed it ourselves, we say so and grade it lower. The two are never merged.

MaterialBasisManufacturer wording
ABS Listed by the manufacturer A “bonds well to a wide variety of bonding surfaces such as metals, ABS, PC, FRP and wood”
GRP / fibreglass Listed by the manufacturer A “bonds well to a wide variety of bonding surfaces such as metals, ABS, PC, FRP and wood”
Polycarbonate Listed by the manufacturer A “bonds well to a wide variety of bonding surfaces such as metals, ABS, PC, FRP and wood”
ASA Our assessment: suitable C ASA is not named in the TDS; the sheet's 'plastics' category is too vague to broaden into ASA per source policy. Assessed suitable from ASA sharing ABS's styrene-acrylonitrile matrix and similar medium surface energy.

Preparation

Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from grease, oil and dust. Use the current Sika pre-treatment chart for the exact substrate and validate on original parts.

Limitations

Professional-use product. Stress-crack-prone materials and actual coatings require testing. General fresh/seawater resistance is not an immersion certification.
