SCIGRIP Weld-On 55

Clear two-component reactive polyurethane documented for listed thermoplastics, including ABS and polycarbonate, to one another.

This is polyurethane adhesive, so everything true of that chemistry applies here too.

Manufacturer substrate wording
SCIGRIP® 55 is formulated for bonding a wide variety of thermoplastics, including polycarbonate, cellulose acetate butyrate, PETG, buffed acrylic, ABS, PVC, polyurethane and foam board to themselves and one another (Note 'buffed acrylic'. SCIGRIP specify an abraded acrylic face, not acrylic as supplied) Manufacturer verified
UV resistance wording
The adhesive has excellent resistance to discoloration by UV light. (A colour-stability claim about the adhesive itself. Not a weathering, exterior-durability or strength-retention claim) Manufacturer verified
Working time
6.0000 minutes (Upper end of stated 5-6 minute working-time range at 23 C) Manufacturer verified

What it bonds

Where the manufacturer names a material, we quote them. Where we have assessed it ourselves, we say so and grade it lower. The two are never merged.

MaterialBasisManufacturer wording
ABS Listed by the manufacturer A “including polycarbonate ... ABS ... to themselves and one another”
Acrylic Listed by the manufacturer A “buffed acrylic” Abrade first
PETG Listed by the manufacturer A “SCIGRIP® 55 is formulated for bonding a wide variety of thermoplastics, including polycarbonate, cellulose acetate butyrate, PETG, buffed acrylic, ABS, PVC, polyurethane and foam board to themselves and one another”
Polycarbonate Listed by the manufacturer A “including polycarbonate ... ABS ... to themselves and one another”
PVC Listed by the manufacturer A “SCIGRIP® 55 is formulated for bonding a wide variety of thermoplastics, including polycarbonate, cellulose acetate butyrate, PETG, buffed acrylic, ABS, PVC, polyurethane and foam board to themselves and one another”
uPVC Implied by the manufacturer B “SCIGRIP® 55 is formulated for bonding a wide variety of thermoplastics, including polycarbonate, cellulose acetate butyrate, PETG, buffed acrylic, ABS, PVC, polyurethane and foam board to themselves and one another”

Preparation

SCIGRIP specify buffed acrylic rather than acrylic as supplied, so acrylic faces should be abraded before bonding.

Limitations

The TDS gives no service temperature and no water, moisture or immersion statement; neither should be assumed. The 10 C to 27 C range on the datasheet is storage, not service. Classified as a hazardous material: flammable, vapour harmful, may irritate skin or eyes.
